Chawton House Hampshire

We first met our couple for brunch at Lyme Regis in Dorset and a few windswept photos on the Cobb. They planned for a wedding service at the Church of Holy Rood, in Holybourne in Hampshire, and afterwards our couple traveled to Chawton House, near Alton in Hampshire. The house at Chawton is a fine and grand example of an Elizabethan country house, with spectacular parkland views, where Jane Austen came to dine and to dance.

It was as much the grounds as the house that appealed to our couple. After the church service and a short drive to Chawton House we took a few family group photos beautifully back-lit on the steps up to the house. Meanwhile, their guests had drinks in the courtyard washed down with oysters, and then their friends’ band played a set in the woods behind the house, in an atmosphere that resembled a mini festival. The short walk through the grounds provided a perfect opportunity for some informal and impromptu double portraits of our couple, before heading to a traditional marquee on the lawns for dinner and more dancing.
